Research Associate / Evaluator

The Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation (OEIE) at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS seeks an Evaluator to join a service-oriented multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive and collaborative project development, strategic planning, and evaluation services for local, national, and international projects. A Master's degree is required. The Evaluator will report to the OEIE Director and work in collaboration with team members to develop and implement program evaluations, including project design, work plans, instrument development, data management and analyses, reports and presentations. Some overnight travel, night and weekend work is required to fulfill responsibilities of position.

OEIE is a fast-paced and growing office at Kansas State University. Since its inception, OEIE has provided more than 65,000 hours of technical assistance and capacity building services in evaluation and program development to various state and federal agencies, universities, foundations, and businesses. OEIE has conducted research and evaluation services for over 160 projects totaling $50 million sponsored by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Education, Kansas Board of Regents, Kansas State Department of Education, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment, to name a few. Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in evaluation, education, social science, or related field.
  • Ability to design and implement program evaluations or applied research.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex projects and deadlines with attention to detail and organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the proven ability to produce well-crafted reports and clearly present complex information to various audiences.
  • Develop data analysis plans and analyze data using appropriate methods.
  • Prepare technical evaluation reports, briefings and presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct descriptive statistical analysis of data using computer software (i.e., SPSS and/or SAS).
  • Ability to work in diverse and changing environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three to five years experience working in the field of evaluation.
  • Extensive experience organizing and facilitating focus groups.
  • Extensive experience conducting various research methods to gather data, including document reviews, case studies, surveys, focus groups, observations, and interviews either face-to-face or by phone or video.
  • Broad knowledge of the current research-based principles, theories, and practices of evaluation.
  • Experience evaluating projects related to science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM) fields

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000

Appointment Conditions: Term 12-month appointment renewable contingent upon needs for services and funding.

Evaluation Projects Coordinator
The Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation (OEIE) at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS is seeking an Evaluation Projects Coordinator for a term position. The Evaluation Projects Coordinator will work to support program evaluation, project development, and monitoring and reporting activities at OEIE. This position is responsible for working as an integral part of an evaluation team to coordinate projects within a large evaluation office. This position will be responsible for managing project databases to keep projects organized, writing reports, and attending meetings and conferences as directed. The position will be responsible for working with university faculty and other evaluation clients and stakeholders at the state and local level. Some travel is required. Qualified candidates for this position must meet the following criteria.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to assess problems and develop creative solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team
  • Demonstrate strong research and analysis skills
  • Candidates must be detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas and charts
  • Candidates need to have at least a basic understanding of database design including creating queries and reports
  • Ability to work in diverse and changing environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of program evaluation
  • Experience conducting interviews and/or facilitating focus groups
  • Experience utilizing complex databases using Microsoft Access or other database systems
  • Familiarity with grant-writing and project development

Salary: $35,000 - $40,000

Appointment Conditions: Term 12-month appointment renewable contingent upon needs for services and funding.

Web/Database Developer
The Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation (OEIE) in Manhattan, KS is seeking applicants for a full-time Web/Database Developer to expand its web application and database development team. The successful applicant should have experience building small to mid-sized data management systems in a PHP/MySQL environment. As part of the OEIE web and database development team, this position will collaborate with other programmers, evaluators, and project coordinators to build innovative and user-friendly data collection and reporting systems that will assist and enhance evaluation efforts. Additionally, the successful applicant must be a team player with the ability to work within a diverse and changing, dynamic, and professional environment. Responsibilities and required qualifications are listed below.

Responsibilities:

  • Web-based application development primarily utilizing PHP & HTML/Javascript, running on a MySQL back-end.
  • Collaboration with the OEIE team to design and implement innovative web-based interfaces to both collect and disseminate evaluation data.
  • Continued support and development of existing databases and web-based applications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • At least 2-3 years of web development experience in a PHP + MySQL environment
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and SQL
  • Solid foundation in relational database theory
  • Solid foundation in principles of software development with the ability to adapt to specific coding conventions
  • Ability to write "clean code" quickly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience that demonstrates skills in graphic and user-interface design
  • Experience with the "agile" software development methodology
  • Experience developing or supporting Microsoft Access databases

Salary: $52,000 - $62,000

Appointment Conditions: Term 12-month appointment renewable contingent upon personnel evaluation and funding.
